My family likes to eat at Cracker Barrel and when it's nice outside we usually play a game of checkers out on their front porch after dinner with those big oversized checkerboards. Well I got inspired one day that something like that would be a great gift for my dad and father-in-law for Christmas. They both like to play games and I thought something like this would be great to play with their grandkids as they are just getting old enough to understand the rules of the game to play. Of course I'm one for a challenge to "make" it myself instead of buying it, so I came up with a design and created customized cloth checkerboards for them. I love how they turned out because they were big and soft, it was less likely to get banged up and checkers to be stepped on if they got thrown all over the place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my father-in-law I made an Iowa State themed board with navy and red felt checkers. Now I was pretty limited on the amount of Iowa State fabric I had so the red squares are kind of random with the logos on them, but if I had plenty of fabric I would have lined up the IA State and Cy in the middle of the squares. It was my first attempt at "quilting" and found that it is very tricky making 64 perfectly square pieces and sewing them to be all the right sizes to line up together. When I was done attaching all the pieces together I ironed out all the seems and ironed on some light weight interfacing to the back. Then I added a square backing piece and made some quilt binding to finish off the edges. I wanted to order oversized checkers but couldn't get them in time for Christmas so I cut out double pieces of felt and used Tacky glue to attach them together. This made them nice and thick plus the glue hardening helped add some rigidity to the pieces. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year for my daughter's 6th birthday she wanted a Fairy Garden Party. It was a little challenging creating an outdoor feel in the middle of winter but I think we did a pretty good job and all the girls had a wonderful time. I didn't really go with the Disney Fairy theme, but I borrowed some concepts from it. Essentially the party was designed around visiting different fairy areas with fairies that had different talents. We encountered flower fairies, light fairies, pixie dust fairies, baking fairies and of course I did have to throw Tinker Bell in there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKsClZP6nK93CigD902Bm0LBMU9NNn3XfyfaVHm-VHhYdQLk1PODgao58xkUTueUxdeMzWIlGxXS_hyphenhyphenCccl0SILI4SJl3cuKZEZFjXfmwWz2qxa-RgXaaYmRepg8Xcr0nguoCaa3rAcgtQ/s1600/IMG_9681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKsClZP6nK93CigD902Bm0LBMU9NNn3XfyfaVHm-VHhYdQLk1PODgao58xkUTueUxdeMzWIlGxXS_hyphenhyphenCccl0SILI4SJl3cuKZEZFjXfmwWz2qxa-RgXaaYmRepg8Xcr0nguoCaa3rAcgtQ/s320/IMG_9681.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When the girls showed up they made their way to the "Flower Garden Room" which was our living room that I decked out in all the spare silk flowers I had in my house and in storage. I actually got to use my wedding flower arrangements again that I wondered if I would ever use again 10 years ago!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the middle of the floor I had a card table collapsed with some paper sacks and flower/butterfly foam stickers for them to use to decorate their bags. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once all the guests arrived we gathered around and I read them a letter that Tinker Bell had left for them. She told them to truly enjoy fairy land they all needed to look the part so she had fairy skirts and wings for them to wear and flower wands.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made tulle fairy skirts from 6"x 24"sized strips of tulle that I tied around 3/8" elastic. I used mostly white, but added in a few pink, purple and green strips.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The wings were constructed of two wire hangers with the hooks straightened out. I cut out hanger shaped pieces out of organza, turned them right side out then sewed up the edge. The straightened hooks then overlapped and had more organza wrapped tight around them with an elastic strap secured inside to help make the arm bands. Then I used some fabric glitter to make the sparkly swirls.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the flower wands I bought colorful silk flowers which I popped the tops off. I hot glued the short stubby end left on to a painted wood dowel then wrapped the "stem" lightly with white ribbon leaving about 12" on each end to create the curly Qs. Finally I tied thin strips of tulle around the base of the flower to hang down.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decorated our stairs with Christmas lights, tulle, and tissue paper butterflies left over from the "butterfly party" a few years back.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I decorated the hallway down to my daughter's room (AKA the Pixie dust room) with strips of Christmas lights and poly stuffing along the way to look like little clouds.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the "Pixie Dust Room" I had a little garden arch set up that I decorated with Christmas lights and tulle and an elevated chair covered with green earthy material for the girls to sit on while I painted their nails with sparkly nail polish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On my daughter's dresser I had homemade body glitter set up for them to adorn themselves with. I found little travel containers at Walmart to hold the home body glitter which was made up of aloe vera gel with fine glitter mixed in it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is one of my new favorite sewing creations of mine. A wonderful lady who bought a quiet book from me last year made a special request for me to come up with an "I Can Count" banner for her son for Christmas this past year. She said he really liked trucks, busses and trains so I thought of making a transportation themed banner. The banner is 20" x 24" in size and can be hung up with a wooden dowel. The base part of the banner is made up of two thicknesses of heavy felt with a thin ribbon separating each numbered section.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBplqpbtLQqvRBvljBOcTeylC9_qxcNjUnbXey4GJ7w1Dwj2uFfp-2-6rCA7IKC9jDHtFqbWbnSPC4qKXsTSfSl6GOEYvw3_PX8ZX5SOv7AgK9TEYO0FR5LtH_jb5jlNQJUs0SDgnQ71AL/s1600/banner+pieces.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBplqpbtLQqvRBvljBOcTeylC9_qxcNjUnbXey4GJ7w1Dwj2uFfp-2-6rCA7IKC9jDHtFqbWbnSPC4qKXsTSfSl6GOEYvw3_PX8ZX5SOv7AgK9TEYO0FR5LtH_jb5jlNQJUs0SDgnQ71AL/s320/banner+pieces.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I designed each of the little pieces so that they would fit in the designated spaces. I wanted a lot of detail to really make this piece a lot of fun. Once I got the patterns made and cut out all the little pieces of felt I sewed small pieces of velcro on the backside of each piece with the opposite side of the velcro in its corresponding spot on the banner. I made the grabby side of velcro to be on the banner so that the pieces wouldn't mess up the rest of the banner if it got stuck out of place. I attached the top detail pieces on the Velcro-ed pieces with tacky glue to give each piece a bit more rigidity when it dried.</div>

To hold all the pieces when they are not on the banner I created a little pouch that can be hung from the underside of the banner with velcro. My customer's son really like Thomas the Tank so I made the pouch of that material.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3v3EXUJaoqFZ4X5fr4WRVGLXwokv0kBAK4miE6VFDNeAUWJbflSIjdlhHw1OEfy5IJmV7zIVdHcIxyvxhXrae9zBSOXIjvdlfLxnt-7chneDP3DfjYPoYS8-x7MiY_ToNRpU6IrlzEEok/s1600/I+can+count+finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3v3EXUJaoqFZ4X5fr4WRVGLXwokv0kBAK4miE6VFDNeAUWJbflSIjdlhHw1OEfy5IJmV7zIVdHcIxyvxhXrae9zBSOXIjvdlfLxnt-7chneDP3DfjYPoYS8-x7MiY_ToNRpU6IrlzEEok/s320/I+can+count+finished.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
When the pouch is not in use, there are pieces of velcro on the back of the banner that it can attach to. Also the pouch is set up to be able to close so that the pieces can be kept nice and safe inside when it is not attached to the banner.<br />

If you are interested in my creating a banner like this for your little one, please feel free to contact me via email at corrina_dea@yahoo.com. This banner sold for $75 because of it's very detailed pieces, but I can definitely make more simple pieces for a little less expensive piece. I would love to customize a banner for your little one to include their favorite things so please let me know if you are interested.</div>

I figured with baby coming in a mere 9 weeks, I better start getting organized again.<br />

It's a fun recipe to add a special twist on a baked bean dish. I love making this for potlucks and for BBQ's because you mix all the ingredients together and chuck it all in a crockpot or if you want to get it done quicker you can bake it in the oven.<br />
<br />
<b>Ingredients:</b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrLpADX6xh9zYC2PVRDKLjB7zF_O5cpfHiF0J4CDd40VmE9WfAuKIdczz_gP7Cy7KBhIKfm3ymTgwPT1-vOsju0qCQoWO3atnDrSl08kZdL0dqgOgwHYcghPpX3cbE-Nz41xSWLm_Mk0gL/s1600/IMG_6310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrLpADX6xh9zYC2PVRDKLjB7zF_O5cpfHiF0J4CDd40VmE9WfAuKIdczz_gP7Cy7KBhIKfm3ymTgwPT1-vOsju0qCQoWO3atnDrSl08kZdL0dqgOgwHYcghPpX3cbE-Nz41xSWLm_Mk0gL/s320/IMG_6310.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2 cans (1 lb each) pork and beans (I prefer Bush's because it's a little thicker base to start with)<br />
1/2 cup brown sugar<br />
1 tsp dry mustard (I use regular yellow mustard and it works fine)<br />
1 tsp dry ground ginger<br />
1/2 tsp black pepper<br />
1/4 cup molasses<br />
6 slices bacon - chopped<br />
1 large onion<br />
1 lb ground beef, turkey or pork, browned<br />
1 clove garlic, (opt)<br />
2 stalks celery, chopped (opt)<br />
<br />

One tradition that my family has had for generations is cutting, cooking and freezing fresh sweet corn to enjoy throughout the whole year. This method and recipe come from my Great Grandma Mathel and I remember as a very young girl sitting out on the picnic table surrounded by 4 huge bushel baskets of sweet corn and helping husk, clean, and cutting sweet corn. Then my sister and I would carry the husks down to the feed the hogs we had. It was so fun and every year I do this I recollect wonderful memories with my Great Grandma and my mom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What's so great about this recipe is that you are already adding in your butter, salt and sweetness to the corn so all you have to do is thaw out the bag, or if you are like my mom just throw the frozen bag in the microwave to eat it all up and then dump it in a bowl ready to eat. And with this method of using fresh sweetcorn when it's in season, you really can enjoy that "fresh" sweetcorn taste anytime of the year. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We are starting to sweet corn show up in our grocery stores and before long many of us will see it being sold by the bushel in the back of pickup trucks from local farmers (which is the best way to do it). I just happened to by this batch of corn in the grocery store at $3 for 10 ears and I got 6 bags of corn (2 full cups in each) from 20 ears. That is about $1 a bag. In the grocery store it can cost $0.60 for a can of corn that only has about 1 2/3 cups in it so it's a wash in price, but canned corn doesn't taste at all like this. Plus by freezing your own you can control the amount of salt, sugar and butter that goes in it.</div>

Next I take and ear of corn and a medium sized knife and start cutting up the ear, cutting as deep as you can to get the kernels but not to get too far in the cob. Then I scrap my knife back down where I just cut for any other little bits and juice. This method creates more of a creamier final corn product. If you don't want that then don't scrap it afterwards, just cut the kernels.<br />

Then pour the corn in a container to go in the fridge to cool. I just used a 9x13 inch baking pan. If you can put it in a bowl that is sitting in a large bowl of ice filled water and stir it until it cools down a bit before putting in the refrigerator that would work good too. Cool the corn completely.</div>

You then need to make sure sure you remove the air in the bags and seal them well. If you have a food saver machine that works the best. But if you don't I seal up my bags almost all the way and then I leave a little slot to suck out the remaining air and quick seal it up. I know this is kind of silly but I saw it on Sesame Street one time when I was really young and it worked for them. </div>

I may be a little crazy, but I think I'm just passionate about making quiet books!!!! I've loaded up on fabric and supplies and have prepped up to make 26 quiet books. Now they won't all be in done in a week, let alone a month or two but I'm setting things up to work on a little at a time as I have time.<br />
<br />
I am making books in two different sizes - 10" x 9 1/2" and 7" x 6." The larger books will come in 16 or 8 paged books and the smaller books will be 8 pages as well. I've found some really super cute fabrics for the quilted covers I make that are funky and fun for all little boys and girls. I plan on creating more books that are more boyish and girlish themes and also offer to customize covers with a picture or child's name for a little bit extra fee.<br />
<br />
I'm also working a few crayon totes as well with baseballs, sharks, and Tiana from Princess and the Frog as well...they are all cut out and ready to be assembled!!!!<br />
<br />

Before my husband and I got sent overseas on his work assignment we actually did a whirlwind tour of England in a week. I started creating some scrapbook pages to remember our trip. Here are a few pages I made for our stops at Stonehenge and the lovely Roman city of Bath.</div>

Well it is time to share with you all why my postings have been less frequent over the past several months. I have been fighting through the sickness and exhaustion of the first trimester of my third pregnancy!!!! This is the precious little being that I am "making" and nurturing right now. It sure has taken a lot of my energy and attention over the past four months, but I am starting to gain back some momentum. I am starting to create some new projects and finally being able to stomach some new recipes and hopefully get back on some meal planning. (I tell ya that is a real tough one to stomach literally as I changed my mind about meals up to 5 minutes before everyone started to scream that they were starving.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm looking forward to finally coming up with some fun decor for my new house that I can finally start enjoying. My big struggle now is trying to figure out how to decorate my kiddos' rooms with a new unexpected little one coming along who will have to bunk up with big bro' or big sis' in several months...guess I'll have to focus on the rest of the house to start creating and re-purposing some decor for. Also while I'm able, we are going to try doing some landscaping and gardening outside so I'll be sharing with you how we get along with that!!!</div>

It's that time of year when fresh fruit and vegetables are in-season and home gardens are in full bloom. While I don't mind jarred salsa, there really isn't anything that can compare to fresh homemade salsa. Now my mom used to make up huge batches, first cooking it then freezing or canning loads of jars to last throughout the year. But honestly I love chucking loads of great fresh ingredients in the blender and eating it right away with some tasty tortilla chips!!! Here is how my hubby and I like to make garden fresh homemade salsa:<br />
<br />
<b>Ingredients:</b><br />
6-7 fresh Roma tomatoes or 3-4 beefy-salsa style tomatoes (enough when rough cut that it equals about 4 cups)<br />
leaves from about 8-10 springs of fresh cilantro (aka coriander in other lovely parts of the world)<br />
the juice from 1/2 a fresh lime<br />
1/2 cup chopped red onion<br />
1 tsp salt<br />
1 tsp cumin<br />
1/2 tsp red chili pepper flakes or 1 small fresh chili pepper diced up (about 1 tsp)</div>
<div>
<br />
<b>Method:</b></div>

Chuck everything in your blender (or your food processor) and "chop" until it all gets minced up and blends well together. Do a quick taste test and add more of anything else that fits to your taste. If you want it a bit hotter add some more chili pepper and cumin, a little more acidic add more lime juice, or more of that great tingy taste of the cilantro. Add in and blend a little more until incorporated.</div>

A wonderful lady from Australia bought my red tractors crayon totes on Etsy, but she had two other children that she wanted totes for so I made up two more for her. This is my first order from overseas and I am very excited!!!</div>

She requested one themed with fairies and the color pink, so I found this really cute Tinkerbell fabric which was purple and then lined the inside and the edges with a bright pink fabric. So perfect for her little girl.</div>

Then she wanted one with construction trucks on it for her other little boy. I had a really tough time finding construction equipment fabric in any of the stores right now, but luckily I had this fun print still in my piles of fabric at home. Totally cool for a little Aussie boy!</div>

I had a wonderful lady from North Carolina contact me to make her a quiet book. She loved the ones I had made but had also already fell in love with another book that she saw someone make online. She asked if I could replicate the book for her and I took on the challenge. Unlike other books that I've made in the past this book is much bigger - 30"x 11" when it is open fully. The pages are all made from different patterns of fabric with firm interfacing attached on the back sides of the fabric to make a firmer feeling page. The book is suited more for older little girls (4 + years old) and full of super cute girly fabrics and activities.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These were my two most time intensive pages and most expensive to make. The left side is an "I Spy" quilt which have 1" squares holding magnets that match up with another square underneath. So all 30 pieces can be taken off and stuck back on their matching squares. To get the squares to stick securely enough I had to use higher strength magnets (3/4" #6 magnets) and then I used a piece of crafting tin attached underneath the patchwork quilt sewn on the page. With my new sewing machine I'm not supposed to get magnets near it with the computer in it so I had to hand sew all the little squares closed after I glued the magnets inside. The carrot field on the right is so fun...but I had to hand sew the numbers on it and hand sew the pieces as well as the little green floss on top for the greens. I love my new sewing machine because it can do lettering and I made the little carrot sign next to the garden with that feature.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDI00wUgr50meMh7NX_bXMeewEoOl5VQtPhd_BZk2S6TyfokqDZFkTM1BiBXC6CMfFagYTMNVce8c5ryR50Ot3sEUfgEhy8kbvpzTXXbzqBqiEYReNdaWH5xwEawrNOG1Mk2_Z4ufukge_/s1600/IMAG2453.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDI00wUgr50meMh7NX_bXMeewEoOl5VQtPhd_BZk2S6TyfokqDZFkTM1BiBXC6CMfFagYTMNVce8c5ryR50Ot3sEUfgEhy8kbvpzTXXbzqBqiEYReNdaWH5xwEawrNOG1Mk2_Z4ufukge_/s320/IMAG2453.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally this book has a cute little piggy bank with a purse underneath to hold all the precious little coins as they slide in the top of the pig and come out a little hole on his underside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The outside cover is a vibrant pink striped pattern with handles and it almost looks like a little portfolio book and can easily be carried around by the special little girls who are going to get to call this precious and fun book their own soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my daughter's 5th birthday she wanted a puppy dog party. To kids the gift bag at the end of the party seems to be one of the highlights I thought up something super fun, easy to make and not very expensive, but loaded with lots of goodies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9HNQRL3OV-0X2h63-ERVJoMXLC8UqUikouQdP-CZPR95MJ4e4CtS_-GVMo02eQQrwIvAFyFyi0Hr-f71keA5W_o-WnI0J-mCVTnYBEGXBVPOC2mci0uKedMQvcayqFGMGv0lFzO_3oBcf/s1600/IMG_7467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9HNQRL3OV-0X2h63-ERVJoMXLC8UqUikouQdP-CZPR95MJ4e4CtS_-GVMo02eQQrwIvAFyFyi0Hr-f71keA5W_o-WnI0J-mCVTnYBEGXBVPOC2mci0uKedMQvcayqFGMGv0lFzO_3oBcf/s320/IMG_7467.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started out by finding some really cute little colored "doggie" bowls and personalized them with our guest's name. I got these fun little plastic bowls at Walmart for about $0.98 each. I thought about painting the bowls but using a simple black permanent marker was so much easier and faster. I also added a fun little paw print next to their name.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO2aQ1eYAJmN7o05FKj0ibxHheqyN9hIdt_-uHlLOX88KMf-_I-Tt_vODCceZV8nAqQooj23dJs9K7rgZTxSorPImp4pFoYIbBLJkNG1rknMwDgQb7nIYw_eyo7g8B3ECENlGniueTp6w1/s1600/IMG_7464.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO2aQ1eYAJmN7o05FKj0ibxHheqyN9hIdt_-uHlLOX88KMf-_I-Tt_vODCceZV8nAqQooj23dJs9K7rgZTxSorPImp4pFoYIbBLJkNG1rknMwDgQb7nIYw_eyo7g8B3ECENlGniueTp6w1/s320/IMG_7464.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I created the little "doggy" treat bags to go inside the doggy bowls. I made <a href="http://thingsiliketomake.blogspot.com/2011/12/puppy-chow.html">Puppy Chow</a> and Doggy Biscuits (<a href="http://thingsiliketomake.blogspot.com/2011/12/butter-cookies.html">bone shaped sugar cookies</a>). I put each of the different homemade goodies in ziploc snack bags.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKQTV9iTDuuzzJ1M4DRlpfQ-tUvYqtTtbBdOSQSo4f22pqOe4D0kclM-sxK1LGpOFBtbOS67xtUMX22YmZY6_u8cxAVJPMwYGJo81tqxWl5M1JVC_lnaacI_KETyy10dlE3OcA0GJY8l5c/s1600/IMG_7466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdDfjfYaSl2LUOoPEzkwIV8HJNIvOdttXnKwDBRUZRBcNDzyl5hYhJToySNkxN0kvrldUm6bbOW1_ddimD_dbsFLJ8jHONyqgD8n8P1T-lvNju4sjcXDXjRXe7-elzOyTJ-V7bPkd0o4y6/s320/IMG_7465.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For a little extra something special on the goodies, I made little label tags made out of puppy print paper. I printed out the text, cut around the text with just a little border and glued it on the puppy print paper (found in scrapbook section at Hobby Lobby). I cut the puppy paper to be the same width measurement of the snack bags. Next I glued the puppy print tag on colored paper and left enough space to create a 1/4" color border.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKQTV9iTDuuzzJ1M4DRlpfQ-tUvYqtTtbBdOSQSo4f22pqOe4D0kclM-sxK1LGpOFBtbOS67xtUMX22YmZY6_u8cxAVJPMwYGJo81tqxWl5M1JVC_lnaacI_KETyy10dlE3OcA0GJY8l5c/s1600/IMG_7466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKQTV9iTDuuzzJ1M4DRlpfQ-tUvYqtTtbBdOSQSo4f22pqOe4D0kclM-sxK1LGpOFBtbOS67xtUMX22YmZY6_u8cxAVJPMwYGJo81tqxWl5M1JVC_lnaacI_KETyy10dlE3OcA0GJY8l5c/s320/IMG_7466.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I stapled the labels on the top of the snack bags.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNsTTBkr1LPST6wBOuAsknlGgYoAKHJI8uS4aAGoQHkYGX8v2ne6Y4j0ZIf7cAJ_nOjqupGWxS09U0svbMS3lqfG0jxubSJADxl0ent5x1KBPlbm3uRU3m4JQkgtsx7K6LURRkXml_P3hW/s1600/IMG_7481.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNsTTBkr1LPST6wBOuAsknlGgYoAKHJI8uS4aAGoQHkYGX8v2ne6Y4j0ZIf7cAJ_nOjqupGWxS09U0svbMS3lqfG0jxubSJADxl0ent5x1KBPlbm3uRU3m4JQkgtsx7K6LURRkXml_P3hW/s320/IMG_7481.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The doggy biscuits and puppy chow treats turned out super cute. Now if you can't make homemade goodies you can use the Scobby Do graham cracker treats that are shaped like dog bones.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFzjLJAXHn-dAhwjwscOzrOA8Zm8K9MTzfEd0JXsHhos68efoyd56xKOItZYamn_Wel2lwKwlUGsbYUgLOeiW6L8k25Lj5vyp-3HRsE6rqd_WOpuoxFHq8LW_PxiYzSs6kYXFxwNLQ1Qar/s1600/IMG_7482.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFzjLJAXHn-dAhwjwscOzrOA8Zm8K9MTzfEd0JXsHhos68efoyd56xKOItZYamn_Wel2lwKwlUGsbYUgLOeiW6L8k25Lj5vyp-3HRsE6rqd_WOpuoxFHq8LW_PxiYzSs6kYXFxwNLQ1Qar/s320/IMG_7482.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also inside the bowls I found some doggy print balloons, some mini sized play dough, and a Toy Story brand mini Slinky Dog. Overall I spent about $3 per goodie bag. I used simple gallon sized plastic baggies....the ones that you need a twist tie to close up. They are really nice to use since they don't have any writing on it like other branded bags. They also gave me the option to use a fun puppy print ribbon to close up the bag and tie all the goodies in together.</div>

Of course she picks the cute little puppy dog cupcakes on the cover of the book and decides she wants a puppy themed birthday party. I used a few different things to decorate these cute little "pup"cakes that what was in the book they turned out amazing and weren't as hard as I thought they would be.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>1 box cake mix and extra ingredients according to package</li>
<li>1 container pre-made white frosting (or chocolate if you want brown puppies)</li>
<li>mini marshmallows</li>
<li>red/pink colored sugar</li>
<li>pink or red plain M&Ms</li>
<li>mini chocolate chips</li>
<li>Pull and Peel Twizzlers (for dog leash rope)</li>
<li>regular sized cupcake papers (white)</li>
<li>mini-sized cupcake papers (white)</li>
<li>1 quart plastic baggie</li>
<li>Cellophane tape</li>
<li>Scissors</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Method:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Make up cupcakes according to the directions on the box. A regular cake mix will make up to 24 full sized cupcakes, so you can make up 12 regular sized cupcakes and 12 mini cupcakes and use the rest of the batter to make up more mini ones or regular sized ones. I made up more mini ones and just made faces on them and not full bodies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let the cakes cool fully before you begin frosting them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR2d03VvZGxMiXEx4El8eMQJiIDW5C2tBK3oxR11K31dMbjr5UeSqSozsKefQSVtECRrNIJFAWPOBsxwqpYZa5-yZcGjf-j4tQ0N_vsleKGm5wSoOvkQMYqhIkPTJ4Pqte-XkdaTvv-u7t/s1600/IMG_7441.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR2d03VvZGxMiXEx4El8eMQJiIDW5C2tBK3oxR11K31dMbjr5UeSqSozsKefQSVtECRrNIJFAWPOBsxwqpYZa5-yZcGjf-j4tQ0N_vsleKGm5wSoOvkQMYqhIkPTJ4Pqte-XkdaTvv-u7t/s320/IMG_7441.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first step was to cut 12 mini marshmallows at a diagonal with kitchen shears. If you dip the shears in water before cutting the marshmallows they don't stick as bad. Next pour some of the pink or red colored decorating sugar in a small bowl and dip the sticky cut edge of the marshmallows into the sugar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnTb0VfhaFnd9B-GSzGx8Lxl6hEHp31HDc60x9m9aid2ByKi7wnFW7mEXbbJxDuPX95h2YL_uzFbVH5V-4FLAzvdl6I3XqHscX2rtBxJBx8iG0crYxao8c38j2TrN68ZkJL0XY9MczsAAn/s1600/IMG_7442.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnTb0VfhaFnd9B-GSzGx8Lxl6hEHp31HDc60x9m9aid2ByKi7wnFW7mEXbbJxDuPX95h2YL_uzFbVH5V-4FLAzvdl6I3XqHscX2rtBxJBx8iG0crYxao8c38j2TrN68ZkJL0XY9MczsAAn/s320/IMG_7442.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Prepare the icing bag by wrapping one corner of a quart sized bag with 6 layers of cellophane tape (Scotch tape). Fill the bag with the frosting from your pre-made frosting and squeeze the air out and seal the bag shut.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With a sharp pair of scissors, clip an upside down "W" in the tip.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Squeeze a little bit of frosting on the flat side of the marshmallow ears.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then stick them in a proportional spot on the top of a mini cupcake. Put two ears near the top and then use a whole mini marshmallow to stick on as the nose.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now pipe on frosting down the edges of the ears on both sides and in between.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is what it will look like from the front when you get the ears covered....now for the front of the face.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAIuAgdMlWxN9h2egl_GhSqgNQOKaJPX2oVDimb6wy5DVLMJ-q5taCDiyrCTXjvFE2vBjMh3YkfKnRFwA_CEJeeowL4-sWaUGRIsbq5fFsI8yTCUw6n1dTdj04Vzbf1tUylcrefWYPN-eR/s1600/IMG_7454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAIuAgdMlWxN9h2egl_GhSqgNQOKaJPX2oVDimb6wy5DVLMJ-q5taCDiyrCTXjvFE2vBjMh3YkfKnRFwA_CEJeeowL4-sWaUGRIsbq5fFsI8yTCUw6n1dTdj04Vzbf1tUylcrefWYPN-eR/s320/IMG_7454.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Starting from the top just under the ears pipe down and to the sides of the face on each side to cover the face. When you get to the nose, start at the top of the marshmallow and pull down the sides of it and towards the outside of the cupcake. You can kind of poke at the frosting all around the face a bit to create more of a spiky affect to the "fur."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfA380fzU5zkmVfkqob47OOzxWuGhCLjKnQAF4bRUey1vaCJT9wvurqttIrivixLEkgQYxSuP8u6B_5LwgIrhtVV5rbcaeaJ7WNnmAB44ygefjyoUXZoigPv83IMGLXSHeXjBH4ao7hOna/s1600/IMG_7455.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfA380fzU5zkmVfkqob47OOzxWuGhCLjKnQAF4bRUey1vaCJT9wvurqttIrivixLEkgQYxSuP8u6B_5LwgIrhtVV5rbcaeaJ7WNnmAB44ygefjyoUXZoigPv83IMGLXSHeXjBH4ao7hOna/s320/IMG_7455.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, you can put two eyes and nose on with mini chocolate chips. I used an M&M for the tongue and pushed that in under the mini marshmallow nose. Set that aside while you make the body of the puppy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-eD716v1FbwtXLhpx03j2pU7vevs6G29sUMIT1kcFLKsg4kGBgTc59at0ekD-t0vk-i_8v-kyBG8EQmo4wS6CE_WI4IYyEvl9Ol93f6fYztumNZJ5iWWbPW06hqdyq_35X-hnDqYwYIq0/s1600/IMG_7458.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-eD716v1FbwtXLhpx03j2pU7vevs6G29sUMIT1kcFLKsg4kGBgTc59at0ekD-t0vk-i_8v-kyBG8EQmo4wS6CE_WI4IYyEvl9Ol93f6fYztumNZJ5iWWbPW06hqdyq_35X-hnDqYwYIq0/s320/IMG_7458.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On a regular sized cupcake, start by pulling down about 1" ribbons of frosting that radiate all around the outside of the cupcake.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGQEZ1CdNNtpK5p-zmxYiTYJ6CAGUfU9Gz8qIEtNQwl87_W6abihGOagE6JO3jaOTeGFzh7XnfGT3up2xJi24SwmGIk1OAfN5_IN52jzL2KPerNylOMO41BTOY4k6x_e1k9uuWlIuSZWdN/s1600/IMG_7456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGQEZ1CdNNtpK5p-zmxYiTYJ6CAGUfU9Gz8qIEtNQwl87_W6abihGOagE6JO3jaOTeGFzh7XnfGT3up2xJi24SwmGIk1OAfN5_IN52jzL2KPerNylOMO41BTOY4k6x_e1k9uuWlIuSZWdN/s320/IMG_7456.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then fill in the middle part of the cupcake with ribbons of frosting and then with the same poking action at the frosting with the piping bag to make a more spiky appearance to the "fur."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVhE4_LVZjz-r2QXy7zyM60YdjI2yZWDg-oSfJ0HKcSiCzs_jIk8VfRKJfCiAireh6WrxQkgJGjPuhQ5d6XfKFY8W-HwT3OO05uAS6pXUwQAvC4Vzh1Yzi-gCH0PeevqbDr-gdy0dWEgn_/s1600/IMG_7457.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVhE4_LVZjz-r2QXy7zyM60YdjI2yZWDg-oSfJ0HKcSiCzs_jIk8VfRKJfCiAireh6WrxQkgJGjPuhQ5d6XfKFY8W-HwT3OO05uAS6pXUwQAvC4Vzh1Yzi-gCH0PeevqbDr-gdy0dWEgn_/s320/IMG_7457.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you can place the mini cupcake with the puppy face on it's side on top of the puppy body cupcake. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can put piece of liquorish on the side of the neck and drape to the side for the dog's lead if you'd like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To store the cupcakes until the party, I put them on a large baking sheet and set it inside a box that could be covered. I would recommend refrigerating or freezing the cupcakes a little bit right after frosting them to help firm up the frosting. I would also beware making these if you are going to serve them in any type of really warm temperatures because they may melt a bit and cause the puppy heads to potentially slide off (past experience with other cakes). Normal room temperatures should be fine for holding their shape. As you can see I also made up just faces on some of the leftover mini cupcakes and served these to the mommies at the party.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You can also use food coloring to make the frosting different colors for different colored dogs or use chocolate frosting for darker colored puppies. I stayed with plain white as my daughter's favorite little puppy toy is all white as well.</div>Corrina Deahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10833492331196098020noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4804409772272995093.post-90512001107689579642012-03-01T07:20:00.000-06:002012-03-01T07:20:49.574-06:00Zucchini Muffins<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4tzBxh4KFvbwCc9frrFBrhnC7uOP7eDC6BQaWLj_dJttTQ2z3qhIipQGSd6xrUaDvX6xqdktITS8vcU60mcJhyphenhyphenFcvkrB8ahkJvL8tnkazNmi3YjSUzqhwdcrGQilGhJmr9NADt0D58EW-/s1600/IMG_6089.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4tzBxh4KFvbwCc9frrFBrhnC7uOP7eDC6BQaWLj_dJttTQ2z3qhIipQGSd6xrUaDvX6xqdktITS8vcU60mcJhyphenhyphenFcvkrB8ahkJvL8tnkazNmi3YjSUzqhwdcrGQilGhJmr9NADt0D58EW-/s320/IMG_6089.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />

Zucchini muffins are so much better than they sound...yes, you can get an extra helping of vegetables during breakfast or for a quick snack. I got this recipe from tasteofhome.com and it's yummy!!! I even substituted some whole wheat flour in with the all-purpose to get it an added extra healthiness.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdOdhyphenhyphenusa0aUJmEqN-SoziFMEBw-RGebir5NwgSNS5jx1oNsEDm7Y3ZLfYzOcWKTXD2tNbsJAjMC0fvGEHd46LHwwFXGp9uGZffat2cKjzLQziwC5xTWAyc3Sy4FAwxEOryBCLId40H19n/s1600/IMG_6084.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdOdhyphenhyphenusa0aUJmEqN-SoziFMEBw-RGebir5NwgSNS5jx1oNsEDm7Y3ZLfYzOcWKTXD2tNbsJAjMC0fvGEHd46LHwwFXGp9uGZffat2cKjzLQziwC5xTWAyc3Sy4FAwxEOryBCLId40H19n/s320/IMG_6084.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="213" /></a><br />

Also to prep the zucchini, I just wash up and shred it with the skins and all to add to this recipe!!!<br />
