Saucy Meatballs

This has become a real favorite in our family for a meal and tailgating and party treats. This also seems to be a dish I regularly will put together when I bring a meal to a family like when a new baby is born. This meatball recipe is a great meal that can be put together ahead of time and thrown in the oven for 30 minutes before you are ready to eat. Also you could make up a bunch of meatballs and freeze some of them for a future meal or party.

Ingredients:

Meatballs:
2 lbs lean ground beef (can mix half ground pork/half beef)
2 cups oatmeal
2 tsp chili powder
2 eggs
5 oz milk
1/2 tsp pepper
2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped onions

Sauce:
2 cups ketchup
1 tsp liquid smoke (opt)
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Method:

Mix all meatball ingredients together.

Shape into balls (1" for appetizer sized and 2" for dinner sized). Place in baking pan in a single layer. Bake at 350 F/180C for 20-30 minutes or until done.

Drain grease out of pan.

Mix together sauce ingredients and pour over cooked meatballs and cook for an additional 20 minutes. For appetizer meatballs, put meatballs in slow cooker/crockpot and cover with sauce and let meatballs heat through.

We like to eat our dinner meatballs with some type of potato and Twice Baked Potatoes are our favorite. Also some kind of vegetable like green beans, corn, peas, or anything else is good too.
